Welcome to Claire Duckworth Reflexology
Thank you for visiting my website
I launched my business in 2020 in St Andrews in Fife.
In the late summer of 2024, I relocated back to my home town of Glasgow.
My background is in Nursing. I graduated from the University of Glasgow with a Bachelor of Nursing degree in 1990. The experience of working within Nursing and the Healthcare sector has been invaluable and it is my genuine desire to help improve the health and well being of my clients through Reflexology.
My interest in Reflexology began when I was a teenager. At the time, my Mum qualified with a Diploma in Reflexology from the first training school in Scotland. I was privileged to enjoy the many benefits of her treatments thereafter.
In 2019 I graduated with distinction from the Complementary Therapy School with a Practitioner Diploma in Clinical Reflexology. This qualification is the highest level available in the UK and is credit rated by Napier University.
I am committed to continuing my professional development and have completed courses in Maternity Reflexology, Reflexology in Cancer Care and Reflexology for Menopause.
I am a proud member of the Association of Reflexologists, the Professional body which was set up in 1984. Membership of the AOR demonstrates the highest level of training and commitment to developing skills and knowledge. I am regulated by their Code of Practice and Ethics.
Reflexology is a deeply relaxing holistic therapy. It is based on the theory that all the systems and organs of the body are represented in reflexes on the feet and hands. By application of gentle pressure to these reflexes using specific finger and thumb techniques, imbalances within the body can be addressed.
Reflexology dates back thousands of years to Ancient Egypt, China and India.
Reflexology as I practice today was developed in the 1930’s by an American Physiotherapist called Eunice Ingham. She was responsible for mapping the body on to the feet and is referred to as the “Mother of Reflexology”.
The human body is quite incredible with the systems and organs working in synergy to maintain a state of balance or homeostasis.
Imbalances can occur particularly following periods of illness and stress. The deeply relaxing nature of a Reflexology treatment interrupts the patterns of stress and works with the body’s innate healing ability . It can be used safely alongside traditional healthcare and can be received at any stage in life.
The effects are unique to each individual, and often experienced immediately. However it sometimes can take 3-5 treatments to bring about considerable improvement.
There can be many benefits to Reflexology, it can ease tension, reduce stress, improve mood and enhance general well being. It can also be used to improve sleep.
There are thousands of nerve endings on the feet which are stimulated during a treatment. The deeply relaxing nature of a treatment allows the Parasympathetic nervous system to function effectively leaving the mind and body in a calm relaxed state.
Reflexology also improves circulation which is essential to health, nourishing cells and removing waste products from the body. The best way to find out about the benefits, is to try it for yourself!
"The human foot is a masterpiece of engineering and a work of Art."
-Leonardo da Vinci
Foot Reflexology
Our feet carry us through life and are often not given the care and attention that they deserve. There are thousands of nerve endings on each foot which makes them more sensitive and receptive to reflexology.
Reflexology in Pregnancy
In pregnancy, a woman’s body will naturally go through significant changes and Reflexology is a safe and supportive treatment to have during this time.
Reflexology can help to manage some of the symptoms associated with pregnancy and provides an opportunity to relax and focus on your growing baby.
I completed my Maternity diploma with Sally Earlam in 2019 and will see clients in the 2nd and 3rd trimester.
Reflexology for Menopause
Every woman’s experience of the menopause is unique. I have completed my training with Sally Earlam which has given me the knowledge and understanding of the Menopause along with additional techniques to use during my treatments
As a Reflexologist, I can offer support, provide relaxation and I aim to make the journey through the menopause a little easier.
At the first visit I will put together a treatment plan based on the clients symptoms and experience of the menopause .
Research has shown that Reflexology is an effective therapy for sleep disorders and hot flushes during the menopause.
